The main objectives of Hungarian Geothermal Association are:
- trade representation of association members which deal with the exploration and multipurpose utilization of Hungarian geothermal energy;
- assisting and supporting the scientific research, development and application in association with the exploration and exploitation of geothermal energy;
- coordinating the activities related to the objectives above, and conducting expert activities within the territory of Hungary.
In the rare cases where external experts are involved in governmental preparatory work in Hungary, when their opinion is requested, MGtE is given a delegation right.
One of the goals for the distant future is to create either a separate geothermal energy law or at least a law on renewable energy. Hungarian Geothermal Association considers it as an important effort to cover the country’s heating energy demand from at least 10% of the deep geothermal source for which the geological conditions exist. Developing an economical and reliable method of reinjection of utilized geothermal waters into unconsolidated and argilliferous sandstone is also a prime task.
Since 2003, MGtE has conducted several successful series of negotiations with government departments to amend and draft legislation. Some of these were so important, that without it, geothermal industry players would have been loaded with extra expenditures and thus should have given up their activity within a short time.
Since 2004, MGtE has been organizing professional conferences and workshops on a regular basis and also has launched the quarterly edition of Földhô (Groundheat) Newsletter, which is unique in the country.
