Tell us about yourself.
My name is Juliet Newson and I am the Director of Iceland School of Energy.
What makes Geothermal so great?
Geothermal energy is a renewable, sustainable energy source. We in the industry have a moral imperative to ensure that fossil fuels are replaced by clean energy, so being involved in geothermal contributes to that goal to the betterment of all. It helps that geothermal energy is a fascinating multidisciplinary topic, spanning science, engineering, law and politics, and society and social values. So there is always something of interest to talk about and a geothermal topic for everybody.
What makes IGA so great?
The IGA represents the worldwide geothermal community, with members from 36 nations. It is a fascinating and diverse community with a common interest. It has always seemed to me that the people involved have to be a little bit idealistic because, let´s be honest, geothermal is really quite a small part of the world energy scene. People get involved because they care, and I believe that is why I have met so many truly nice people and made so many friends in the geothermal community worldwide.
