Interview with Sadiq J. Sarrouk
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Sadiq J. Zarrouk and I am the course coordinator for the Postgraduate Certificate in Geothermal Energy Technology programme at the Department of Engineering Science, the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I am also involved in professional geothermal energy training and research, for example I’ve been a member of the organising committee of the New Zealand Geothermal Workshop since 2006.With an extensive 20 years commercial field experience in geothermal and reservoir engineering, I have worked on more than 35 geothermal fields in New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and North America. My roles involved the assessment of the resource, well targeting, well test analysis, reservoir modelling and all the engineering aspects of the field development.
What makes Geothermal so great?
My passion for the geothermal industry comes from the confidence that geothermal energy is more abundant than all the other energy resources on Earth combined. It has the potential to provide clean renewable energy for all of humanity’s needs.
What makes IGA so great?
The International Geothermal Association is the world authority on promoting geothermal energy development, education and research. It has the pulse of the industry and the policy makers. The IGA has a vibrant and dedicated Secretariat Team guided by an international Board with a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the future. For these reasons I’ve joined IGA and continue to be a part of it.
