Call for Geothermal Direct Use projects in Latin America and Caribbean
Introduction:
The International Geothermal Association (IGA) is inviting all stakeholders from the Latin American and Caribbean region to submit their geothermal direct use project.
Are you interested in expanding geothermal food and agriculture markets? Are you a business or project developer located in the LAC region, who wants to utilize geothermal energy to accelerate your business? Or are already involved in any form of a geothermal direct use project development? Then we highly encourage you to submit your project pitch!
Eligibility criteria:
- Location: Central America, South America, Caribbean Islands
- Project profile: Geothermal direct use application for Heating & Cooling of buildings, Greenhouses, Aquaculture, Agricultural Drying, Spa & Bathing.

About the IGA:
The International Geothermal Association (IGA), is the leading global platform on geothermal energy, serving as a hub for networking opportunities aimed at promoting and supporting global geothermal development. With industry partners the IGA sets standards, mature the technology agenda and nurture entrepreneurs engaged in clean technology. We represent the global geothermal sector at the international level to advocate for the right policies to enable geothermal energy implementation worldwide.
About the Social Impact Fund:
The IGA recognised a gap between capital being invested in critical infrastructure such as grid-based power projects and community-based socio-economic development needs. The focus is often on power projects, but electricity is just 30% of total energy demand. The higher demand is for heat (40%) and with Geothermal we can utilize an almost unlimited source directly.
Geothermal Direct Use (GDU) requires often relatively small investments but could have a positive and significant impact on the development of communities and regions.
Therefore, the IGA raised funds for a Social Impact Fund to invest in the Latin American and Caribbean region to develop projects harnessing geothermal heat for agriculture, industry, and communities: Heating & Cooling of buildings, Greenhouses, Aquaculture, Agricultural Drying, Spa & Bathing.
