Exciting Announcement: World Geothermal Congress 2026 Shortlisted Locations Revealed!
We are thrilled to announce that the tender committee for the World Geothermal Congress (WGC) has shortlisted three incredible locations for the event in 2026! After a rigorous evaluation process, the committee has chosen Cancun, Mexico; Calgary, Canada; and Rome, Italy as the top contenders to host the WGC in 2026.
Cancun, Mexico: Renowned for its stunning beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant culture, Cancun is an ideal destination for bringing together the world’s geothermal experts. As Mexico increases its focus on renewable energy, hosting the WGC in Cancun would emphasize the importance of geothermal resources in the country’s sustainable development.
Calgary, Canada: Situated in the heart of Canada’s energy industry, Calgary is a city with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. With Canada’s abundant geothermal potential and the city’s strategic location near the Rocky Mountains, Calgary offers a unique opportunity to explore the possibilities of geothermal energy in a diverse landscape.
Rome, Italy: Steeped in history and culture, Rome is an inspiring location for the WGC. Italy is a pioneer in the geothermal sector, with the world’s first geothermal power plant built in Larderello over a century ago. Hosting the congress in Rome would pay homage to this pioneering spirit and underscore the continued significance of geothermal energy in the global energy mix.
The final decision will be announced soon, so stay tuned for more updates! We would like to extend our gratitude to all the cities that submitted their proposals. The overwhelming enthusiasm and dedication to the growth of the geothermal sector is truly inspiring. We can’t wait to see you all at the World Geothermal Congress 2026, where we will continue to collaborate, innovate, and drive the future of sustainable energy!
