Dear friends,
The IGA newsletter is back! Finally we can share with you again where we amplify your voice and how your support helps to achieve our common mission: advancing and growing geothermal energy globally in our golden decade.
In case you did not subscribe to our mailing list yet, we will give you here a review of this month’s issue, where we informed you on our activities globally and gave you a sneak preview on what’s on the agenda.
Enjoy!
Your IGA Team
In May we visited several project sites with our partners in four SICA countries. Our aim was to strengthen our relationship with local stakeholders and to scope our next steps to mobilize capital for small-scale geothermal direct use projects.
Several initiatives are emerging in the countries such as dehydrating with geothermal heat in Guatemala, coffee drying in El Salvador, heat pumps for hotels in Costa Rica and hot spring analyses for direct use in Belize.
We also were introduced how sustainable ICE´s geothermal power plants are through an excellent site visit of the Pailas I and II site in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. A wonderful video is recorded by our media partner Core Knowledge.
All SICA countries have phenomenal potential for both power and direct use. At the IGA we are keen to support the further development and deployment of a multitude of projects and are looking forward to play a central role in this region.
The IGA has a MoU with the German Society of International Cooperation (GIZ) dedicated to development of GDU in the SICA region.
The first GSAP training was held in San Jose, Costa Rica. We saw participants from all SICA countries joining the training given by Dr Joerg Hartmann.
The Geothermal Sustainability Assessment Protocol (GSAP) is an important new instrument for the global geothermal community and was pioneered by Iceland over the past years. With the expected growth of geothermal energy projects globally it becomes crucial that we measure, monitor and communicate in a standardised way on all matters that make geothermal sustainable.
The GSAP is now translated into Spanish, with the kind support by the GIZ and can be downloaded here.
At the GreenTech in Amsterdam the IGA had the honour to meet our friends from the Ukraine: Alexander Kuntsiv and his team from Triosan Holding. We discussed Ukraine´s plans for developing geothermal projects in particular for the Agribusiness sector.
Ukraine called for legal and technical advise as well access to the green finance community. We are 100% committed to assist and now launch a call to our global community to come forward and sign-up to our Thinktank where we define the roadmap to a sustainable geothermal sector in the Ukraine.

The current energy crisis has led many greenhouse corporations to look into geothermal energy as a direct source for heating, cooling and climate control. The IGA is delighted to host a 2 day event where we bring together greenhouse developers, geothermal experts and financiers to learn from experts in the greenhouse business.
In addition, we will visit projects and discuss with their owners on site about their experiences, knowledge and their best practices. Sites we will visit are Trias Westland and ECW Middenmeer. Speakers include EBN, Getech, Shell Geothermal and many more.

Learn from the icon of geothermal energy generation in Larderello, Tuscany! We are beyond excited to work with ENEL Green Power to jointly organise an international geothermal workshop. This is a 2 day programme all around geothermal sustainability with government representatives, industry leadership and the finance community.
We have received more than 1600 abstracts from our international community expressing their interest to present at the World Geothermal Congress 2023 scheduled 17-21 April in Beijing, China. The overwhelming response to join us in Beijing where we will be hosted by Sinopec and Arctic Green Energy Corporation is simply fantastic.
We have a strong Technical Committee in place and thank all our reviewers who have done an outstanding job so far. Full papers are due end of September.
A first schedule of events including details on sponsorship, exhibitions and short courses is expected to be online from end of August 2022 onwards – the signs are so far on green and we look forward to our event in the vibrant city of Beijing.
