October 2022
Dear friends,
In case you did not subscribe to our mailing list yet, we inform you in October’s review on our activities globally and give you a sneak preview on what’s on the agenda.
Enjoy!
Your IGA Team
More than 160 people from 17 countries joined us from 11-12 October in Larderello to learn from the Geothermal icon.
During this 2 day event the community discussed sustainability, new market development and how to raise awareness for Geothermal Energy.
In our technical sessions on day 1 speakers included representatives from industry, R&D, European Union and were complimented by delegates from Croatia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
On the second day ENEL Green Power showed the geothermal icon in its full glory. We are delighted about the positive feedback by our participants, who were able to gather valuable knowledge about the utilization of geothermal energy from a technical perspective and to witness, how this development enables a regional long-term community development.
We look forward to continuing this series in 2023.
In October, the IGA Team visited Colombia and jointly with Oscar Llamosa of AGEOCOL spoke with representatives of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Holland House Executive Director Jan Willem van Bokhoven in Bogota. Key topic was to promote geothermal energy within the country and to discuss the potential of organising a geothermal green hydrogen event in April 2023 in Cartagena, Colombia. This was received with great interest and the first draft outline of the event will be online this month.
After Bogota, the IGA team supported the 6th RENAG event in Manizales organised by the Colombian Geothermal Association. A superb event attended by over 140 geothermal enthusiasts, keen to get the first geothermal projects going in Colombia. The potential is there – now let´s just do this!
Due to ongoing uncertainty regarding scheduling and organising a global event under the zero-Covid policy in China, the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and the National Geothermal Energy Center of China (CNGEC) are announcing that the World Geothermal Congress 2023 is postponed to October 2023 and scheduled to take place according to the following schedule:
We are aware of the limitations for presentation spaces this results to and are sorry for any inconvenience this will cause.
For the exhibition and sponsorship packages further information is expected to be available by the end of November 2022.
The deadline for paper submissions to the technical programme is extended with three months to effectively 31 December 2022.
The World Geothermal Congress (WGC) is the premier global geothermal event for the sharing of knowledge and innovations from around the world, bringing together leaders of industry, academia, governments, NGO’s and communities to collaborate and provide thoughtful solutions for a sustainable world.
The IGA is looking for a partnership and requesting proposals to prepare and deliver the organisation of the World Geothermal Congress 2026 (WGC2026).
You can download the Request for Proposals on our website.
Due to the postponement of the WGC2023 to October, we extend the closing time for proposals until 31 January 2023.
The World Geothermal Congress is the IGA´s flagship event and is scheduled every three years. The event attracts more than 2500 participants, has a strong scientific component and is considered the most important event for sponsors and exhibitors to demonstrate their brands, companies and services they can provide in the geothermal energy space. The social programme entails cultural exchanges, welcome reception and a conference gala diner and a crucial element of any WGC are the field trips to experience geothermal together and learn from the countries best practices.
